Day 1- A blog from Jill deBoer (:

Well you should know we have arrived safely in Titanyen, Haiti! So far it has been great!  The bus ride yesterday from the airport to Mission of Hope was about an hour and a half, but so neat just seeing the different culture. For me, the plane and bus ride was a bit rough...apparently I have developed motion sickness? (Don’t worry Mom and Dad, nothing bad!)

Today we visited 2 different villages. Praying for families and having little kids RUN up to you wanting so bad just to talk (try to talk, considering the language barrier) and hold your hand literally everywhere we went. I wasn’t super shocked at the culture...maybe because I had already expected most of this to see. It was just seeing it all happen first hand that was a little different. Anyways…we are all still so tired considering we haven’t really gotten a ton of sleep since home! It is extremely hot here, everyones got quite the amount of colour already!

There will be two different people writing a blog each day. Kathryn and I are doing it for today. Sorry there will be no pictures because of the slow internet connections.

I LOVED finding all the hidden treasures in my suitcase, thank ya Mom and Dad!:) Miss you all can’t wait to see ya.
LOVE: Jill deBoer :)

  1. I'm so glad to hear you have arrived safely, Jill!! (But not as relieved as your mom! LOL)
Maybe by now you've had a chance to catch up on some of your sleep!?

Your best ability is your availability to Christ!!
And you know He loves a cheerful giver! "How" you give is more important than "what" you give!

I'll be praying for you, Sister! (And your teammates too!)

PS When you get to see Diana Wiebe, give her a BIG hug from us!!

  2. What a good opportunity to grow as a follower of Christ. Ask every day: "What is God doing in me today?" God bless.

  4. Dear Jill & Everyone!

So glad you are all there safe!
Jill you have always had a "soft heart" for the weaker" and you have shown that with all of your fundraising efforts with "Free the Children" and now we know Haiti will always be a part of you as well! We are so proud of all that you (and everyone) are doing there and we know that you and your team members are being a blessing to all you come in contact with!

Last night we were able to visit Wainfleet Brethren in Christ Church. They had a presentation from Jen's (Shirton) team that went to Nicaragua. Much to our surprise there was a team that had just returned from MOH as well and we loved seeing their pictures of where you are! Are you sleeping in the big yellow building? Also saw the concrete that was engraved with "Cancrete."

Well....enjoy the rest of your time there everyone. Don't be too anxious to come home. Know that what you are doing will help shape the rest of your lives and bring hope to others there!

    See you in a week!
Miss you Jill....(oh....and don't forget the gravol on the way home! :)

Love, Dad & Mom (Mr. & Mrs. deBoer)

  6. Hello from Home!

    Hi Jill and Everyone....again!

So you are all half way through your "mission/journey!"
Just wanted to say "hi" basically, and tell you that we have enjoyed reading all of your entries.
Kathryn we loved your comment about the driving....too funny!
Teagan, we bet you are loving showing everyone around MOH and elsewhere. It must be so neat to be able to "show" instead of try and describe everything the way you did (before you left) verbally or through pictures.

Just wanted you to know we are thinking of you all (Jill :)) all the time! You are always in our thoughts and prayers!
The weather here is quite unseasonably warm as well (so don't brag too much!!) Haha...I'm sure it's waaay hotter there!
Sounds like you have been enjoying the sun if you have needed Melissa's "afterburn."

Well....hope you are all staying healthy and enjoying all that you are doing there. I know you will all continue to be in the hearts of everyone there even after you leave for home.

Can't wait to see you Jill (and everyone)
P.S. We heard it was Regans's birthday the day you left!
Happy Belated Regan....what a great way to remember your 16th!!!

Love the deBoer's (Mom & Dad)

  7. Hello Everyone.....yes, it's us again! :)

Just wanted to wish you all a great last day there.
We know today will be a day of church and reflection for you all. Tomorrow will be a day of good-byes to new friends that you have made. We have a feeling that many of you will return home with an anxious feeling to return to Haiti again in the future.
We (and everyone's parents for sure) are so excited for your return home TOMORROW night!
Jill we miss you and are alerady in Toronto "waiting" for you! :)
We have been listening to "Follow You" from the link that Micala left on the blog. I think it's becoming a new favourite for me.

Well....safe travels tomorrow! Teagan, we wish you and your dad safe travels as well as you meet up with the rest of your family in the D.R.

    Until tomorrow night......

Love, the deBoer's (Mom & Dad) XOXO
